All other semi-finalists and finalists shall receive an honorarium of $300.00.
*May be invited to perform with the Springfield Symphony in the 2009 - 2010 season.

Audition Repertoire

Each entrant must submit three (3) copies of a CD recording of at least one movement of a major work with orchestral (piano) accompaniment. Vocalists should plan a presentation of about 8 - 10 minutes and may include more than one selection. Each soloist must provide his or her own accompanist.

Eligibility Requirements

Must be between 18 and 24 years of age and enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies. (Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Hellam Committee).

Entry Information

Entry fee $50.00 (non-refundable)
Entry deadline November 22, 2008
Entry must be accompanied by a recent photograph and a copy of current photo ID with d.o.b.

Top 10 entrants will be notified by January 12, 2009 of their acceptance to perform in the semi-finals and finals on April 4, 2009 in Springfield, MO. Acceptance of the invitation to compete in the semi-finals and finals, must be received by January 26, 2009.

The first three alternates will be informed of their status by January 12, 2009.

The ten (10) semi-finalists will be invited, but not required, to arrive in Springfield on April 3, 2009. Housing will be provided by host families, if desired, from April 3, 2009 to April 5, 2009.

Morning: Each semi-finalist will perform one movement (memorized -performer not permitted to use score) with piano accompaniment of the major work originally submitted on the CD. Vocalists will perform an appropriate number of selections. Entrants must provide their own accompanist and provide three (3) additional copies of their score, or scores; one copy for each of the three (3) judges.

Afternoon: The top three (3) to five (5) finalists will perform the complete work. One movement of which was performed in the morning Semi-finals.

The jury will confer and award prizes immediately following the completition of the performances.
